Diaper change and changing table

An organized and safe changing table makes diaper changes easier

One of the most important things when it comes to a changing table is safety. If you're changing at working height, it's good to always keep a hand on your child while they're lying there. It makes your child feel more secure and, at the same time, keeps them safely in place. One tip is to have a toy or something else to distract them if they get restless during the change.

Setting up the changing table for the change

As well as keeping your child safe and distracted, it's important to have everything you need within reach. Make sure you have enough clean diapers and cloth wipes close at hand. Running water nearby is handy, or a spray bottle of water to make cleaning easier. If your child is hard to get clean, a little rapeseed oil can make it simpler.

When your child gets older and doesn't want to lie still on the changing table, you may need to get a little creative. One tip is to place the clean diaper on your knee while you're sitting down, then lift your child onto the diaper to snap it up. It tends to be a well-liked method for lively little ones.

Storing cloth diapers before washing

For those of you who use cloth diapers, it's good to have a plan for storage before washing. Many people think cloth diapers smell bad, but with the right storage you avoid that. A common option is a bin with a mesh wash bag, or several smaller bags. You can also use a waterproof wet bag that breathes. Store the diapers with plenty of air around them, and if you can't wash straight away — let them dry before putting them into storage.

Finding a routine that suits you and your family

As a brand-new parent, changing a diaper can feel a little daunting — your child seems so small and fragile. But after a few changes you'll soon find your routine and get to know your child. Many children enjoy the moment at the changing table, so take the chance for a little extra tickling and cuddling. At the same time, it's an opportunity to check over the rest of the body to make sure everything looks well.
