Using second-hand baby items isn't just a budget-friendly choice, it's also a lovely way to reduce your environmental impact by extending the life of things. We've enlisted the help of Jenny, an experienced buyer of second-hand cloth diapers, who shares her insights to help you find preloved cloth diapers and make smart, cost-effective choices. Here are some of Jenny's best tips!
Jenny's tips for buying second-hand
- Lower your expectations and find your way as you go. Many feel pressure to have everything sorted from the start, but you really don't need to. Begin with one diaper a day and build up as you get used to it. A great way to find the diapers that suit your particular child and your lifestyle.
- Look for buy-and-sell groups on social media. There are many cloth diaper groups on Facebook, Tradera and Instagram. Follow them and keep an eye out for bargains. There are also "fluff" accounts on Instagram that sometimes sell second-hand diapers.
- Check the condition descriptions. Look at the condition so you know what you're buying. Ask the seller about any flaws or defects – that way you avoid diapers in poor condition and get value for your money.
- Ask questions. Most sellers are happy when you show interest. Don't be afraid to ask about materials, wash routines or other details that help you make an informed purchase. The more you know, the better you can judge quality and durability.
Common abbreviations for condition
- NIP – New in package – a brand-new item.
- NOOP – New out of package – a brand-new item in opened packaging.
- EUC – Excellent used condition – tested and washed, as new.
- VGUV – Very good used condition – lightly used, may have a small bobble or mark, but whole and good.
- GUC – Good used condition – well used, slightly slack elastics but still working.
- UC – Used condition – considerably used, possibly with holes and worn elastics. May need refurbishing.
These are the tips Jenny has followed – from a complete novice and new mum to today owning an almost entirely preloved set of diapers, tailored to her own family.
Combining Time Ahead Sweden with other diaper brands
One challenge on the second-hand market can be that there are so many different diapers and systems. But the basis of all diapers is the same – an absorbent part and an outer layer that keeps the moisture in. Our cloth diapers can be combined with other brands; keep an eye out for fabric inserts that are roughly 12x30 cm. If you want to go all in and make your own snap-in inserts to fit our diapers, KAM snaps are the press studs that work.

Selling cloth diapers second-hand
When your diaper days come to an end, there's always a new parent just beginning their cloth diaper journey. When you pass them on, you can use the same channels you bought from – buy-and-sell groups on social media, Tradera or Instagram. Be ready to answer questions and give as much information as possible to make the purchase easier.
Passing them on is an excellent way to keep the diapers in circulation and extend their life, which reduces environmental impact. By being honest and transparent, you help other parents make smart choices for their children.
