Jenny's tips for buying second-hand
- Lower your expectations and find your way as you go. Many feel pressure to have everything sorted from the start, but you really don't need to. Begin with one nappy a day and build up as you get used to it. A great way to find the nappies that suit your particular child and your lifestyle.
- Look for buy-and-sell groups on social media. There are many cloth nappy groups on Facebook, Tradera and Instagram. Follow them and keep an eye out for bargains. There are also "fluff" accounts on Instagram that sometimes sell second-hand nappies.
- Check the condition descriptions. Look at the condition so you know what you're buying. Ask the seller about any flaws or defects – that way you avoid nappies in poor condition and get value for your money.
- Ask questions. Most sellers are happy when you show interest. Don't be afraid to ask about materials, wash routines or other details that help you make an informed purchase. The more you know, the better you can judge quality and durability.
Common abbreviations for condition
- NIP – New in package – a brand-new item.
- NOOP – New out of package – a brand-new item in opened packaging.
- EUC – Excellent used condition – tested and washed, as new.
- VGUV – Very good used condition – lightly used, may have a small bobble or mark, but whole and good.
- GUC – Good used condition – well used, slightly slack elastics but still working.
- UC – Used condition – considerably used, possibly with holes and worn elastics. May need refurbishing.
